Hi, my name is Scott Bulkley. I am the owner and operator of King Pens. I am an eighth generation woodworker and artist from Houston, Texas. Woodworking and artistry are often distinguished as two separate entities, yet for me they are one in the same. As an artist my mind soars freely in the creative process; as a woodworker my knowledge and skills instinctively focus on the structure and craftsmanship of my creations. I am constantly pushing the boundaries of my work while keeping it intellectually stimulating. I feel that our intellectual properties are the only thing we truly own and they take us to the one place we can truly be free. It is a privilege to be able to work from that freedom; to bring my creative thoughts into the physical world.
Growing up my parents noticed I had a flare for creativity. I was constantly making something or drawing things that inspired me. My Grandfather was a master carpenter as was his father, grandfather and great grandfather before him, going back to the mid to late 1700′s. I guess you could say that woodworking is in my blood. Woodworking is the primary medium I use to express myself. Many times an idea will come to me, and from there I begin the design/creation process.
In my work I am inspired by the beauty of the wood and by all things around me, from nature to man-made objects. I look to bring my pieces together as art with function. I step outside the box and produce items that will not only look great, but will last for decades to come. My preferences are to utilize exotic woods or specialized acrylics which carry their own special features and colors that are unmatched. The natural beauty of the woods I choose bring their own color and character to the piece and produce a unique visual for the eyes to gaze upon.
In my pen designs, I strive to bring only the very best components together to create a fine writing instrument. I realize that there is quite a bit of competition out there, but I think that once you have a King Pen in your hand, you will see the difference and feel the quality that I try to convey through my work. I do not mass produce my pens. Each one is hand made by me. Only the best of the best make it to the showroom floor. Each pen is checked for flaws and if they can be repaired, they are until they reach my personal standards for quality.
I hope you enjoy your time at King Pens. If you have a request for a specialized pen, please do not hesitate to contact me.
